"I think that is the perfect bookend. I think to end seeing him again, it really just puts the final touch to a career.” Troy SowersTroy Sowers

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) - A reunion outside the Knoxville FBI headquarters was the second time Stewart Rembert and Troy Sowers have met.

Rembert doesn’t remember the first time, reports WVLT, but FBI Special Agent in Charge Sowers will never forget that day.

Rembert was two days old in 1997 when he was kidnapped from a Washington state hospital by a woman claiming to be a nurse.

It was one of Sowers’s first cases with the FBI. He found baby Rembert in a box behind a dumpster.

“I pulled a baby out of a box,” he recalled. “That was tough. I had to take a couple deep breaths before I started talking.”

Rembert was then reunited with his family. The kidnapper pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

After graduating high school, Rembert joined the Marines and is now stationed at Camp Lejeune.

"Without him, I wouldn't be where I am today, a United States Marine," he said.

Friday was Sowers’s last day with the FBI. He ended his career with one of the first people he started it with. Cpl. Rembert surprised Sowers at his retirement party.

NEW: FBI says child was rescued after negotiators felt he was in danger
Boy has been taken to a hospital in Dothan, state legislator said
Witness said he heard explosion followed by gunshots

Midland City, Alabama (CNN) -- A 5-year-old child abducted from a school bus six days ago is safe and his kidnapper is dead, ending a nearly week-long ordeal for a little boy, his family and a small Alabama town.

The child appeared to be OK when he was freed, law enforcement officials said. Alabama state Rep. Steve Clouse told CNN that the boy was taken to a hospital in nearby Dothan.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Steve Richardson at the scene said negotiations had broken down with the child's abductor and the kidnapper was "observed holding a gun."

Believing the child to be in imminent danger, an FBI team entered the bunker at 3:12 p.m. CT (4:12 p.m. ET) and rescued the boy, Richardson said, adding that the hostage-taker is dead.

One neighbor said he was outside when he was startled by the sound of an explosion.

"I heard a big boom and then ... I believe I heard rifle shots," said Bryon Martin, who owns a home near the bunker where the boy had been held since Tuesday.

Sheriff: Found body is missing Florida girl

Updated: 49 minutes ago
Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler this morning said the body of Somer Renee Thompson is with the medical examiner who will determine the cause of her death.

ORANGE PARK - Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler this morning said the medical examiner's office in Savannah, Georgia will determine Somer Renee Thompson's cause of death later today.

Beseler said her partially covered body was found in a Georgia landfill near the Florida state line. Investigators followed garbage trucks leaving from the neighborhood where she had disappeared Monday, he said.

Her father, Sam Thompson, identified the body of his 7-year-old daughter by a circular birthmark on her shin, reports show.

"There is a child killer on the loose and that's why we are going to catch this person," Beseler said during a televised news conference in Clay County this morning. "This is a heinous crime."

Police Seek Grandfather Of Nevada Boy Abducted By Men Posing As Cops; Drug Gang Suspected

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 17, 2008

CBS/ AP) The grandfather of a kidnapped 6-year-old boy was being sought by Las Vegas investigators because they believe the abduction may be linked to the man's drug dealings with Mexican nationals, authorities said.

The boy, Cole Puffinburger, was abducted from a Las Vegas home Wednesday morning by three men posing as police officers. Police said they believe the men were Mexican drug dealers and that the kidnapping at gunpoint was a "message" to his grandfather, Clemens Fred Tinnemeyer.

"Tinnemeyer has stolen a large sum of money, all proceeds from illegal drug activity," Las Vegas police Capt. Vincent Cannito said.
